Fresh news on culture and lifestyle in Kansas
Provided by AGPGovernor Laura Kelly proclaimed Friday, May 8, as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day in Kansas. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), alongside Child Care Aware of America, is recognizing the occasion as part of a nationwide effort held each year on the Friday before Mother’s Day to honor the work of child care providers and early childhood educators.
Child care professionals support the foundation of healthy development by creating safe, engaging environments where children can learn, build relationships and grow. Their work not only shapes early learning outcomes but also supports working families and strengthens communities across Kansas.
“Child care providers play a vital role in the health and development of Kansas children and in the stability of our communities,” KDHE Deputy Secretary for Public Health Ashley Goss said. “They are trusted partners to families, helping children build the skills they need to succeed in school and in life. Their commitment and care make a lasting difference for children across our state.
The newly created Kansas Office of Early Childhood is committed to building an early childhood system that supports and values the child care provider workforce. It has created a system that is simpler, more connected, and designed to support the individuals doing this essential work.
“Child care providers are the heart of our communities, and the support families rely on every day,” Christi Smith, Executive Director of the Kansas Office of Early Childhood, said. “They make it possible for children to grow, parents to work and communities to thrive. They are shaping the future of Kansas.”
Child care providers serve as essential liaisons within their communities, often linking families to critical early childhood services and support. Through these relationships, they help ensure children and caregivers have access to the resources they need to succeed. The strength of Kansas’ future depends on the quality of early childhood experiences, making continued investment in child care a meaningful commitment to children, families and communities statewide
