KDHE Announces Recipients of 2027 Solid Waste Reduction Grants
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has announced the recipients of its Fiscal Year 2027 Solid Waste Reduction Grants. These solid waste grants are awarded to municipalities, counties, and businesses across the state. The grants are funded by revenue collected through the solid waste tonnage fee, which is $1/per ton of solid waste disposed at any solid waste disposal area in the state.
The grants totaled $249,018 and were awarded to the following 11 cities, counties, and organizations. Funding is used to support projects related to recycling, composting, and solid waste management public education programs.

- City of Olathe, $8,655.46
- City of Wichita (Brooks Landfill), $12,500
- Compost Collective KC, $25,000
- Full Circle Sustainability, $20,799
- Jewell County (Solid Waste/Transfer Station), $18,274
- KC Can Compost, Inc., $10,000
- Nudge Compost, LLC, $8,153.64
- Zero Waste Initiative, Inc., $12,000
